Deeply Rooted in Kent County

Born and raised in Kent County,  Daniel grew up in Rockford. He attended Grand Valley State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Finance.  He pursued a legal education at Western Michigan University's Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Grand Rapids. Today, he and his wife have made their home in Caledonia, where they are raising their three children.

 

Daniel deeply cherishes the people of Kent County and their values. As a Judge, he would preside over cases with the knowledge and respect the community deserves.

A Career Serving Kent County

As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Daniel is entrusted with responsibilities ranging from making charging determinations to trying jury trials.  He is in court daily, with rare exception, handling criminal and civil cases. The volume of work and experience he has inside a courtroom is unmatched.

Throughout his career,  Daniel has handled thousands of cases and tried countless trials. He is relied upon to use his knowledge of the law, experience, and discretion in handling cases pending in the courts.  He has utilized these skills throughout both the District and Circuit Court levels. He is proud that his reputation and skill set have earned him multiple Judicial endorsements. He is looked to daily by the People of Kent County and victims of crime to ensure justice prevails in our community.

CIVIL EXPERIENCE

Daniel assists police departments around the county in civil filings related to narcotics investigations. He regularly drafts civil filings, engages in contract negotiations, and tries civil cases related to this work.

TREATMENT COURT EXPERIENCE

Daniel has worked as the Drug Court prosecutor at the 61st District Court (City of Grand Rapids) for the majority of his career as an attorney. This includes screening candidates for the program, holding individuals accountable when they are not abiding by the program terms, and making case status decisions when they are subject to termination. He has participated in multiple NATCP conferences, presented to the Grand Rapids Bar Association on the various treatment courts in Kent County, and participated in grant certification.

Daniel has a proven track record of handling a broad range of responsibilities, from making charging determinations to conducting jury trials, showcasing his exceptional legal acumen and courtroom expertise. His daily presence in court, managing both criminal and civil cases, has provided him with unparalleled experience and a deep understanding of the judicial process. Additionally, his work with the National Association of Treatment Court Professionals has prepared him for his role in the 63rd District Court's "Treatment and Recovery Court." Daniel's extensive background equips him with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve with integrity and excellence as our county's next 63rd District Court Judge.
